If Nigeria Has Progressive Government At The Center, Nigeria Would Have Been Better Off By Now__ Governor Makinde
Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has said that Nigeria’s current economic and social challenges would have been less severe if the country had a truly progressive government at the centre.
The governor made the remark while speaking with journalists during a media chat in Ibadan, where he reflected on the state of the nation and the expectations of Nigerians from those in power.
Makinde noted that a progressive government should place the welfare of citizens above politics, adding that leadership must be people-centred, transparent, and responsive to prevailing realities.
According to him, many Nigerians are struggling because policies at the federal level have not sufficiently addressed issues of poverty, unemployment, and rising cost of living.
The governor stressed that his position was based on principle and conviction, insisting that good governance is not about political labels but about concrete actions that improve lives.
He argued that with the right policies and sincere commitment at the centre, Nigeria’s vast resources could translate into better living standards for the majority of citizens.
In the same interaction, Makinde reiterated that he would not support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, maintaining that his political decisions would always align with what he believes is in the best interest of Nigerians.
He added that the country needs leadership that genuinely reflects progressive ideals, not just in words but in practice.
