‎Governor Makinde Draws 2027 Battle Lines, Rules Out Support For President Tinubu

‎Oyo State Governor, engineer Seyi Makinde has declared that he will not support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, setting a clear political marker well ahead of the next general election.

‎The governor made the statement during a media chat with journalists in Ibadan, stressing that his political choices would be guided by principles rather than alliances of convenience.

‎Makinde said his decision was rooted in his belief about the direction of the country and the need for leadership that reflects the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians.

‎Makinde also addressed lingering questions about his strained relationship with former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

‎According to him, the fallout was fueled after Wike promised President Tinubu to hold down the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on his behalf.

‎The Oyo governor, however, said President Tinubu never sent Wike on such an errand, saying Wike was the one bent on destroying the PDP and was later expelled from the party.

‎As political camps begin to quietly realign ahead of 2027, Makinde’s comments are likely to stir debate within both the ruling party and the opposition.

‎For now, the governor appears comfortable standing his ground, signaling that the road to the next election may be livelier than expected.
