2027: The People’s Votes or Politicians’ Arrangements? •By Emmanuel Olagunju

Sometimes, I wonder whether the 2027 presidential election will truly be decided by the people or by politicians who are already arranging power among themselves.

Look at the political situation. An Accord Party member, Governor Ademola Adeleke, was reportedly named among the coordinators of the APC presidential campaign.

Politicians from other parties have also been linked to the campaign structure. What then is the meaning of opposition? What happens to the people who trusted these parties?

There is nothing wrong with changing political sides. But politicians owe Nigerians an explanation. You cannot criticise a government today and help it win tomorrow without answering questions.

The opposition is also divided. Leaders are struggling to put their ambitions aside.

Meanwhile, the ruling party continues to build its political strength. When those who should challenge power cannot unite, who benefits?

Nigerians are worried about hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the cost of living. Still politicians seem more concerned about alliances, appointments, and who controls the next government. The struggles of ordinary people appear to come last.

I am not saying the election has already been decided. I am asking whether the people’s votes will carry more weight than the political arrangements happening before election day.

Democracy should not become a game played by a few powerful people.

In 2027, Nigerians must look beyond party names and political promises. We must ask questions and demand accountability.

An election is not truly about the people when politicians make the important decisions among themselves and remember the people only when they need their votes.
