‘Amaechi Testified in Church That After God, I Made Him Gov’ – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has recalled how former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi allegedly testified in church that, after God, Wike was instrumental to his emergence as governor.

Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during his monthly media chat, where he spoke about his past political relationship with Amaechi, who is currently the presidential running mate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to Wike, Amaechi acknowledged his role in helping him return to Rivers State and secure his position as governor after an incident that took him to Ghana.

Wike said, “How did he (Amaechi) become a governor? Something happened, and he went to Ghana, and I was the person in charge of the matter to return him as governor. In fact, he gave a testimony in church that, after God, it’s Wike.”

The FCT minister also accused Amaechi of spending $10 million on fumigating Rivers State during his tenure as governor.

“Now, he has now turned to say I was his subordinate. No problem. An ordinary Nigerian can ask the same question. It’s not about being subordinate. What is that? I gave the information,” Wike said.

He further alleged that Amaechi spent $39 million on the construction of a hospital that was never built.

Wike also accused the former governor of selling gas turbines for $308 million and mismanaging the proceeds through a bureau de change (BDC).

“He sold the gas turbines for $308 million and wasted the money through BDC. And he’s saying you’re my subordinate. What nonsense is that? Go and answer the question,” the minister added.
