Sanwo-Olu Threatens Full Legal Consequences for FESTAC-Alakija Bridge Vandals
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed security agencies to track down those responsible for the vandalism of the FESTAC-Alakija Bridge, warning that anyone found culpable will face the full consequences of the law.
The governor condemned the incident as barbaric and criminal, stressing that Lagos State would not tolerate the destruction of critical infrastructure.
Sanwo-Olu gave the directive in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, following an inspection of the bridge by officials of the Office of Infrastructure.
According to the governor, the inspection confirmed that the structural integrity of the bridge remained intact, while remedial work would commence immediately to protect the bridge columns.
“Lagos will not tolerate any act of vandalism because it is barbaric and criminal,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He warned that the state government would not spare anyone found responsible for the attack on the public infrastructure.
“Anyone who is found to be culpable in this horrendous, shameful and condemnable incident will surely face the law,” he said.
The governor also urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and protect public facilities from vandals and other criminal elements.
“Lagos has no place for such barbarism and acts of violence against our critical infrastructure and other facilities. Lagosians are enjoined to keep an eye on public facilities to protect them against senseless attacks,” Sanwo-Olu added.
He further directed the relevant authorities to ensure that the necessary remedial measures are carried out promptly to safeguard the bridge and maintain its safety for motorists and other road users.
