‎Fire Destroys Shops at Bola Ige International Market, Ibadan

‎The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has contained a fire outbreak that engulfed two lock-up shops at 348 ZI/E Zone, Bola Ige International Market, New Gbagi, Ibadan.

‎The incident was reported following a distress call from a woman identified as Mrs. Ola, who alerted the agency to the fire outbreak at the market.

‎The agency’s firefighting team, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent, Adeniyi, promptly responded to the scene.

‎On arrival, the firemen immediately commenced operations and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjoining shops and other properties within the market.

‎No casualty was recorded in the incident, while a post-fire investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the outbreak.

‎Following the successful operation, the officer in charge delivered a brief fire safety lecture to traders, occupants and sympathisers at the scene, stressing the need for greater vigilance and compliance with basic fire safety measures.

‎The firefighting appliance returned safely to the station at about 1:41 p.m. and was immediately placed on standby for further emergencies.

‎The Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and fire-conscious at all times.

‎Akinwande particularly encouraged traders to equip their shops with functional fire extinguishers and ensure that they are readily accessible in the event of an emergency.

‎The agency also appealed to members of the public to report fire incidents promptly and provide accurate addresses to enable firefighters to respond quickly.
