Fire Destroys Shops at Bola Ige International Market, Ibadan
The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has contained a fire outbreak that engulfed two lock-up shops at 348 ZI/E Zone, Bola Ige International Market, New Gbagi, Ibadan.
The incident was reported following a distress call from a woman identified as Mrs. Ola, who alerted the agency to the fire outbreak at the market.
The agency’s firefighting team, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent, Adeniyi, promptly responded to the scene.
On arrival, the firemen immediately commenced operations and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjoining shops and other properties within the market.
No casualty was recorded in the incident, while a post-fire investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the outbreak.
Following the successful operation, the officer in charge delivered a brief fire safety lecture to traders, occupants and sympathisers at the scene, stressing the need for greater vigilance and compliance with basic fire safety measures.
The firefighting appliance returned safely to the station at about 1:41 p.m. and was immediately placed on standby for further emergencies.
The Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and fire-conscious at all times.
Akinwande particularly encouraged traders to equip their shops with functional fire extinguishers and ensure that they are readily accessible in the event of an emergency.
The agency also appealed to members of the public to report fire incidents promptly and provide accurate addresses to enable firefighters to respond quickly.
