Nigerian Navy to Commission Two New Seaward Defence Boats Next Week

The Nigerian Navy will next week commission two newly acquired Seaward Defence Boats as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime security and modernise its operational fleet.

The 12-metre-long vessels were procured under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enhance the Navy’s operational capability, particularly in securing Nigeria’s coastal waters and maritime domain.

According to the Navy, the newly acquired boats are expected to significantly improve maritime surveillance, coastal patrol operations and rapid response to security threats within the country’s territorial waters.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to preside over the commissioning ceremony.

The acquisition of the vessels underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the Nigerian Navy’s capacity to combat maritime crimes, safeguard the nation’s territorial waters and protect critical offshore infrastructure and strategic national assets.

The commissioning marks another step in the government’s drive to enhance national security through improved military capabilities and sustained investment in modern defence equipment.
