Government Diverts Traffic for 12 Weeks on Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway
The Lagos State Government has announced a 12-week traffic diversion ahead of the reconstruction of a section of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway between Super Bus-Stop and Ilepo Bus-Stop (inbound Lagos).
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the project will be handled by the Federal Ministry of Works and will run from March 7 to May 30, 2026.
Osiyemi stated that the main carriageway from Super Bus-Stop to Ilepo Bus-Stop (Lagos-bound) will be completely closed during the construction period, while traffic on the opposite carriageway (Abeokuta-bound) will continue to flow throughout the duration of the project.
Motorists travelling towards Oshodi from Abeokuta or Sango Tollgate have been advised to use alternative routes. Vehicles will be diverted into the BRT corridor at Super Bus-Stop and exit at Pleasure Bus-Stop (Ilepo) to continue their journeys. Alternatively, motorists may take Ekoro Road to Old Otta Road via Alira Street, link Abeokuta Street, and exit through Pleasure Bus-Stop. Another option is to use the Abule Egba Underbridge to connect to Agege and proceed to their destinations.
The commissioner added that emergency tow trucks will be stationed within the BRT corridor to ensure swift clearance of broken-down vehicles and minimise disruption.
The government urged motorists to remain patient, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor to ensure smooth execution of the project.
