Edo Police, Sister Agencies Arrest 113 Suspected Kidnappers in Major Crackdown in Agbede, Iruekpen

In a daring, intelligence-led operation conducted at about 0300 hours on 26th February 2026, the Edo State Police Command, under the purposeful and results-driven leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, fdc, carried out a large-scale joint security sweep across strategic locations in Edo Central.

Acting on credible intelligence that ransom proceeds from kidnapping operations were being discreetly received and coordinated at identified “Zangos” in Agbede and Iruekpen, the Commissioner of Police personally led a formidable joint task force. The operation comprised operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), alongside vigilante groups and local hunters, in a synchronized enforcement action.

Coordinated raids were executed on the identified Zango settlements in Agbede and Iruekpen, where actionable intelligence indicated that suspected kidnappers and their collaborators allegedly converge to receive ransom payments, regroup, and blend into surrounding communities.

The precision-driven operation resulted in the arrest of one hundred and thirteen (113) suspects. All individuals apprehended are currently undergoing comprehensive screening and profiling to determine their level of involvement in criminal activities. Those found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Reaffirming the Command’s unwavering resolve, CP Monday Agbonika stated that the ongoing offensive against organized kidnapping networks will remain relentless and uncompromising. He emphasized that beyond pursuing armed elements in forest hideouts, the Police will intensify efforts to dismantle the financial structures and human support networks sustaining such crimes across the State.

The Commissioner further urged residents to remain vigilant and to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring that all intelligence received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

The Edo State Police Command remains resolute, proactive, and fully prepared to safeguard lives and property. The message is clear and unequivocal: there will be no safe haven for kidnappers or their collaborators anywhere in Edo State.
