Governor Makinde Pledges Zero Pension, Gratuity Debt by May 2027; Gifts Out 8 Vehicles
Oyo State Governor, engineer Seyi Makinde has assured residents that by May 29, 2027, when his administration comes to an end, no pensioner in the state will be owed outstanding gratuities or monthly entitlements.
The governor made this commitment while addressing stakeholders, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to prioritise the welfare of retirees. He announced an immediate increase in the state’s monthly allocation for pensions and gratuities from ₦1 billion to ₦3 billion, a move aimed at clearing both backlog and current obligations.
According to him, the enhanced funding underscores his government’s determination to leave behind a legacy of financial discipline and social responsibility.
He stressed that retirees who have served the state diligently deserve prompt and full payment of their entitlements.
Governor Makinde further declared that the success of the next administration must be anchored on loyalty to Oyo State rather than to him as an individual. Speaking at the 12th Omituntun Ramadan Lecture held at Ibadan North Local Government Motor Park, Agodi Gate, Ibadan, he emphasised that competence, integrity and commitment to the collective interest of the state should guide the choice of his successor in 2027.
He maintained that governance must be driven by service to the people and not by personal allegiance, noting that sustainable development can only thrive where public office holders put the state above individual interests.
In the spirit of Ramadan, the governor also approved the donation of one bus each to seven selected mosques across the state’s seven geopolitical zones to support the propagation of Islam.
The governor also gifted the Imam who preached at the Ramadan Lecture a brand New SUV car.
He commended the Muslim community for its prayers and steadfast support for his administration.
Additionally, Governor Makinde pledged that necessary arrangements would be made to ensure the smooth airlifting of Oyo State pilgrims directly from Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan, to Saudi Arabia, further demonstrating his administration’s commitment to the religious welfare of the people.
He reiterated that his government remains focused on delivering people-centred policies and ensuring a smooth transition built on accountability, fairness and enduring progress for Oyo State.
