The Federal Government has officially launched Operation Savannah Shield, a new security initiative aimed at tackling rising cases of banditry and insecurity in Kwara and Niger States.

The operation was flagged off at the Sobi Barracks in Ilorin, drawing the presence of key government and military leaders, including Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, and Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

Speaking at the event, Governor AbdulRazaq described Operation Savannah Shield as a timely intervention for communities affected by persistent security challenges.

He emphasized that the initiative would help restore stability, particularly in key agricultural areas that have suffered disruptions due to criminal activities.

According to the governor, the operation is expected to secure major farming belts, strengthen food security, and enable farmers to return safely to their fields as the planting season approaches.

Military authorities at the Flag off noted that the operation forms part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to reinforce security operations across vulnerable regions and curb the activities of bandits threatening lives and livelihoods.

Residents and stakeholders in both states have expressed hope that the intensified security presence will bring lasting relief and restore confidence in affected communities.
