Gunmen Abduct Wife, Son of Kebbi APC Chairman

Gunmen have abducted the wife and son of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Yusuf Sani Alhassan.

The victims, identified as Nana Aisha Yusuf, 35, and Sanusi Yusuf, 25, were reportedly kidnapped during an early morning attack on the APC chieftain’s residence in Yauri.

The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, Bashir Usman, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, assuring that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

“The command is aware of the incident and is working with relevant stakeholders towards ensuring the safe return of the victims,” Usman said.

“At this moment, the priority remains the rescue of the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.”

According to security sources, the abduction occurred at about 4 a.m. on Monday when heavily armed men suspected to be kidnappers stormed Alhassan’s residence in the Low Cost area of Yauri.

The attackers reportedly overpowered residents in the area before whisking away the APC chairman’s wife and son to an unknown destination.

Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a joint team comprising police operatives and local vigilantes to the scene.

However, by the time security personnel arrived, the gunmen had reportedly escaped into a nearby forest with the victims.

Security agencies have since launched efforts to track down the abductors and rescue the victims unharmed.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over the persistent threat of kidnapping and banditry in parts of Kebbi State and the wider North-West region, where criminal gangs continue to target residents despite ongoing security operations.
