‘My Leadership, Philanthropic Records Speak for Me,’ Oran’kan Faults Smear Campaign Ahead of Oyo Central Senatorial Race
The media team of Ambassador Shakirullah Jimoh Oran’kan has dismissed what it described as a smear campaign and “yellow journalism” targeted at the Oyo Central senatorial hopeful, insisting that his political ambition is driven by a genuine desire to serve the people.
In a statement issued on behalf of the politician, the team said Oran’kan’s aspiration to represent Oyo Central Senatorial District was born out of a clarion call from stakeholders across the zone who believe in his leadership capacity and track record of humanitarian service.
According to the statement, Oran’kan is widely recognised for his human-centred initiatives, including the drilling of solar-powered boreholes, construction of schools for indigent students, support for orphanage homes, and distribution of food palliatives to vulnerable households.
The media team noted that his programmes focus on human development, poverty eradication, youth and women empowerment, as well as support for children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups in society.
“He strongly believes in practical project execution rather than empty promises and political rhetoric,” the statement said.
The statement further described Oran’kan as a visionary, focused, and compassionate leader with a calm and civil disposition.
It also highlighted his academic achievements and international exposure, noting that he currently lectures at a foreign institution of higher learning and has earned global recognition, including from the United Nations, for his contributions to humanity.
The media team disclosed that Oran’kan was approached by stakeholders to contest for the governorship position in Oyo State but later opted for the Senate after consultations.
It also dismissed claims that the politician was relying on the popularity of media personality and political ally, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, to gain political relevance, describing such suggestions as baseless.
Reacting to concerns over the source of his campaign funding, the team maintained that Oran’kan’s philanthropic activities have spanned more than a decade and insisted that anti-graft agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, are carrying out their duties professionally without bias.
The statement warned individuals behind what it termed libellous publications to desist from spreading falsehoods or risk legal action.
“We challenge promoters of malicious publications to engage in constructive and ideology-based discourse rather than resorting to propaganda and character assassination,” the statement added.
The media team also urged supporters of the senatorial aspirant to remain focused and avoid distractions from “unscrupulous elements” bent on spreading misinformation.
It reaffirmed Oran’kan’s commitment to pursuing what it described as a transformative agenda for the people of Oyo Central Senatorial District.
