Tinubu Didn’t Make Buhari President, I Did All the Battle — Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu was responsible for the emergence of former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, insisting that he played the leading role in the political struggle that brought Buhari to power.

Amaechi said he was unable to publicly challenge Tinubu’s claims while serving as a minister under Buhari’s administration because doing so could have led to his dismissal.

According to him, Tinubu repeatedly claimed credit for Buhari’s victory, but he chose to remain silent at the time due to his position in government.

“When I was a minister, Tinubu was claiming he made Buhari president, and I couldn’t respond because Buhari could have fired me because I was still serving as a minister,” Amaechi said.

He added, “Tinubu didn’t make Buhari president. I did all the battle, not Tinubu.”

The former Rivers State governor’s remarks are expected to generate fresh political reactions, particularly within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), where both Amaechi and Tinubu were influential figures during the build-up to the 2015 general election.

Amaechi was one of the key actors in the formation of the APC and later served as Director-General of Buhari’s 2015 presidential campaign before being appointed minister of transportation.
