Danger: NAFDAC Alerts Public Over Sale, Distribution of Suspected Counterfeit Colgate Toothpaste

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert over the sale and distribution of unregistered and suspected counterfeit Colgate toothpaste products in Kaduna State.

In Public Alert No. 022/2026, the agency said its Post-Marketing Surveillance (PMS) Directorate received a complaint regarding the circulation of fake toothpaste products within the state.

Following the report, NAFDAC officials carried out an investigation at a retail outlet and discovered two suspected counterfeit products labelled Coglaet ActivGel 100g and Coglaet Herbal 100g being sold to unsuspecting consumers.

According to the agency, the shop owner stated that the products were supplied by a door-to-door sales representative but was unable to provide any proof of purchase or documentation.

NAFDAC said the products are neither registered nor compliant with required regulatory standards for quality and safety, warning that they may pose serious risks to public health.

The items were immediately evacuated from the shop, while investigations are ongoing to identify and trace those involved in their distribution and supply chain.

The agency urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected sale or distribution of substandard, falsified, or counterfeit regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office, via its hotline 0800-162-3322, or through sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
