U.S-Based Nigerian Doctor Dies While Participating in a Free Medical Outreach in Abia
A Nigerian-born physician based in the United States, Dr. Uzoma Nwaubani, has d+ed in Abia State after suffering a medical emergency during a free medical outreach.
The incident occurred during a five-day health mission held from April 13 to April 17, 2026. The outreach was organised by the Abia State Government in collaboration with the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas.
Dr. Nwaubani, a member of ANPA, had travelled to Nigeria with her husband and daughter, who is a final-year medical student in the United States, to provide free healthcare services to residents of the state.
According to the state governor, Alex Otti, the doctor developed a sudden medical emergency while participating in the outreach and was quickly rushed to a hospital for urgent treatment.
A combined team of ANPA professionals and local medical experts worked intensively to stabilise her condition.
“Despite the gallant efforts of the highly skilled medical team to resuscitate her, she could not make it,” Otti said.
The governor expressed deep shock over her passing, describing her as a dedicated and compassionate medical professional.
He also extended condolences to her family, loved ones, and colleagues, noting that the state government is already in communication with them and will provide necessary support during this difficult time.
Otti further commended Dr. Nwaubani’s family and ANPA for allowing the outreach programme to continue despite the tragic loss.
