Governor Adeleke Approves Reduced Work Hours for Osun Workers During Ramadan, Lent
The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has approved a reduction in official working hours for public servants in observance of the Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.
Announcing the decision, Governor Adeleke said the adjustment is part of his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers, allowing them adequate time for worship and reflection during the sacred seasons.
According to a circular dated February 19, 2026, and titled “Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods,” issued by the Office of the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, the new schedule takes immediate effect from Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Under the directive, public servants across the state are to close work at 2:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays throughout the fasting period.
The circular states that the gesture forms part of the state government’s welfare initiatives and is intended to provide workers sufficient time for prayer, particularly as the state prepares for this year’s gubernatorial election. The governor emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility across the state during the election season.
However, the directive exempts essential service providers especially medical personnel due to the critical, life-saving nature of their duties.
Political office holders, accounting officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), heads of non-ministerial agencies, as well as officials in Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Authorities, have been directed to ensure full compliance and to circulate the information widely among their staff.
The statement was signed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the Governor.
