Wike Urges Opposition to Acknowledge Tinubu’s Achievements, Says Political Differences Should Not Blind Them to Good Works
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged opposition politicians to acknowledge what he considers the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, insisting that political differences should not prevent them from recognising policies and decisions they consider beneficial to the country.
Wike made the remarks on Wednesday, October 14, during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where party leaders, governors and other political stakeholders gathered.
Speaking at the event, the former Rivers State Governor identified himself as a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while explaining his support for Tinubu, maintaining that party affiliation should not stop politicians from acknowledging positive developments under an administration led by a different political party.
Wike disagreed with opposition narratives portraying the Tinubu administration as lacking direction, arguing that the President had demonstrated a willingness to confront difficult national challenges that previous governments had recognised but failed to address adequately.
On national security, the FCT Minister expressed confidence in the administration’s ability to tackle insecurity, highlighting the proposed establishment of state police as a reform that could strengthen security management across the country.
The proposal for state police has continued to generate national debate, with discussions focusing on constitutional safeguards, funding, accountability and the relationship between federal and state authorities.
Wike also challenged members of the Presidential Campaign Council to translate their political influence and appointments into measurable results within their respective areas of responsibility, stressing the importance of demonstrating impact rather than relying solely on official positions.
A review of the inauguration proceedings by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA) identified Wike’s intervention as one of the significant moments of the event.
The inauguration brought together political figures from different parties, including Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, highlighting the participation of stakeholders with different political affiliations.
According to the FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team, the event provided an opportunity to document perspectives shared by political stakeholders on governance, public accountability, security reform and the relationship between political competition and national development.
The Forum maintained that public assessments of government performance should be guided by verifiable policies, measurable outcomes and the experiences of Nigerians across different sectors.
