Wike, Adeleke, Soludo, others make APC revised campaign council list

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expanded and restructured its presidential campaign council for the 2027 general election, naming Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke; and Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, as campaign coordinators for their respective areas.

Under the new arrangement, Wike will coordinate the party’s campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, Soludo will oversee Anambra, while Adeleke will coordinate Osun. Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, was appointed Deputy National Coordinator I for Stakeholders’ Mobilisation in the South-West. The expanded council is expected to be inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

The appointments have drawn attention because Wike belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Soludo was re-elected in November 2025 on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while Adeleke secured re-election on August 16 under the Accord Party.

The APC initially released its campaign council list on August 22, naming former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were appointed Deputy Directors-General.

In the revised structure, Akpabio, Abbas and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq have been appointed Deputy Vice-Chairmen I, II and III, respectively, while Buni becomes Deputy Director-General I for the North. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who previously held the position of Deputy Director-General III for the North, has been moved to Deputy Director-General II for the region.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu were appointed Deputy Directors-General I and II for the South, respectively.

A major feature of the revised list is the appointment of all 32 APC governors as campaign coordinators in their respective states. However, the party’s governorship candidates in some states where it does not control the government were also assigned coordination roles. In Oyo State, APC governorship candidate Sharafadeen Alli was named campaign coordinator, while Mohammed Abubakar and Chijioke Chukwu were appointed coordinators for Bauchi and Abia states, respectively.

The new list also includes 14 advisers, among them former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, former Cross River South Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore and former Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun.

The restructuring comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 general election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially opened campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections on August 19, with the campaign period scheduled to end on January 14, 2027, according to its revised timetable.

Tinubu is expected to face competition from major opposition figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in the presidential contest.
