FG Increases Feeding Allocation For NYSC Members, Implementation To Begin In 2027

The Federal Government has approved an increase in the feeding allocation for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during their orientation course, with implementation expected to begin in 2027.

The Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this while interacting with members of the 2026 Batch C Stream One corps members at the Cross River State NYSC Orientation Camp in Obubra.

Nafiu said the Budget Office had been informed of the upward adjustment, adding that the revised allocation was expected to take effect next year.

He urged corps members to be financially responsible, avoid extravagant spending and cultivate the habit of saving, stressing the importance of prudent financial management during and after their service year.

The NYSC Director General also commended Nigerian youths for their resilience and commitment to national service, encouraging them to remain focused on their responsibilities.

On personal safety, Nafiu advised corps members to avoid travelling after 6 p.m., urging those embarking on long journeys to suspend their trips and continue the following day.

He also cautioned them against resting in public places or sleeping in groups at filling stations while travelling, noting that such practices could make them easily identifiable.

He advised corps members who encounter security concerns on the road to seek assistance at military installations, police stations or Department of State Services (DSS) offices and contact the NYSC hotline.

Nafiu further pledged to intensify engagement with relevant stakeholders to improve infrastructure at the Obubra Orientation Camp, including efforts to establish and rehabilitate facilities.

He also encouraged corps members to acquire practical and vocational skills that could improve their prospects beyond the mandatory national service year.

According to him, skills in areas such as cosmetology and traditional hairstyling could help corps members create additional opportunities for themselves in the future.

Earlier, the NYSC Cross River State Coordinator, Mrs Adejoke Oyenuga, described the Director General’s visit as evidence of his commitment to the welfare of corps members.

Oyenuga disclosed that 1,064 corps members had registered at the camp, adding that they had successfully adapted to the structured orientation programme.
