Just In: JAMB To Hold UTME In Canada From 2027

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, to enable Nigerians living in the country and other parts of North America to sit for the examination from 2027.

JAMB disclosed this in a statement shared on its official social media platforms following a visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.

The board said the proposed centre would provide eligible Nigerians in Canada and across North America with easier access to the UTME, particularly those seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

According to JAMB, the initiative would eliminate the need for Nigerians in the diaspora to travel to Nigeria solely to sit for the examination.

“The proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination,” the board said.

JAMB said the initiative was part of its efforts towards “taking Nigerian tertiary education to the world,” while strengthening the connection between Nigerians abroad and the Nigerian education system.

The board added that the proposed centre would create greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally and make the UTME more accessible to eligible candidates living outside the country.

“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” JAMB said.

The board said it was working towards establishing the examination centre in Ottawa, with operations expected to commence in 2027.

It added that the initiative would reduce barriers for Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America who wish to gain admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

JAMB described the proposed centre as a significant opportunity to strengthen the relationship between Nigerians in the diaspora and Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
