APM: Tinubu Lacks Capacity to Tackle Insecurity, Makinde Has Blueprint
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over the security situation in Nigeria, accusing the Federal Government of lacking a clear strategy to tackle insecurity.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, made the allegation in a statement on Saturday, insisting that Oyo State Governor and APM presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Seyi Makinde, has a blueprint capable of addressing insecurity and other challenges confronting the country.
Yusuf also criticised the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, over his recent assessment that terrorist attacks were no longer rampant in the country.
Musa, during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, said the security situation had improved, adding that troops were now advancing into terrorists’ hideouts to rescue victims.
Reacting, the APM spokesperson said the minister’s remarks suggested that the Tinubu administration was either disconnected from the realities facing Nigerians or attempting to downplay the security situation.
“If the security situation has truly improved as the administration claims, the APM challenges the President, the Minister of Defence and other senior officials of the Tinubu Presidency to travel by road without armed security details as other Nigerians must do,” Yusuf said.
He further alleged that insecurity was continuing under the Tinubu administration because the government lacked the capacity to develop and implement an effective strategy to contain the challenge.
Yusuf said Nigerians could not afford another four years under what he described as an “incompetent” administration, urging citizens to remain committed to the APM’s political agenda ahead of the 2027 election.
He said, “The APM, however, urges Nigerians not to despair but to remain steadfast in their resolve to vote for our presidential candidate, the people’s candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who is ready with a blueprint that will address the insecurity and other challenges brought upon our nation by the Tinubu-led administration, whose lifespan ends on May 29, 2027.”
The APM spokesperson’s comments come against the backdrop of the May 15 attack on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso, all in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The Oyo State Police Command said two people were killed during the attacks, while at least 45 schoolchildren and teachers were abducted.
On July 10, 39 schoolchildren and five teachers were rescued, according to the Presidency.
The APM maintained that the incident and other security challenges across the country underscored the need for a comprehensive strategy to address insecurity.
