Oyo Government, 33 Local Councils Pay #133 Billion Gratuities to Retirees in 7 Years
The Oyo State Government and the 33 local government councils in the state have paid a combined #133.09 billion in gratuities to retired workers over the past seven years.
The government made the disclosure in a post on its official feedback handle on the X platform, saying it had increased its monthly allocation for the payment of outstanding gratuities as part of efforts to clear inherited and accumulated liabilities before May 29, 2027.
According to the figures released by the government, the Oyo State Government has so far paid over #90 Billion towards clearing the backlog of unpaid gratuities inherited on May 29, 2019, and accumulated gratuities as of July 1, 2026.
Similarly, the 33 local government councils have paid about #43 Billion towards clearing their respective backlogs of unpaid gratuities inherited on May 29, 2019, and accumulated gratuities as of July 1, 2026.
The combined payment by the state government and the 33 local governments stands at N133,087,885,264.06, reflecting the administration’s efforts to address outstanding financial obligations to retired workers across the state.
The government then assured retired workers and other stakeholders that the payment process would be sustained, stressing its commitment to the welfare of pensioners and retirees across the state.
