Police Raid Ogun Baby Factory, Rescue Pregnant Women, Four Children
Operatives of the Mowe Division of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled an alleged baby factory at Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children in an intelligence-led operation.
The operation also led to the arrest of six suspects, including two women and an attending nurse identified as Florence Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and Oseni Idaya.
The police described the operation as a major breakthrough in the command’s ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking, child exploitation and illegal adoption activities in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday.
According to Babaseyi, the operation was conducted on August 24, 2026, at about 8am, after operatives acting on sustained intelligence raided the syndicate’s hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that human trafficking and illegal adoption activities had allegedly been taking place at the facility for some time.
During the raid, the operatives rescued two pregnant women identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the location.
Babaseyi added that further intelligence-led operations took the police to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another alleged victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20, 2026.
He said the whereabouts of the newborn could not be established while the mother was receiving medical treatment, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse as the police intensified efforts to locate the baby.
The police spokesperson said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
He said the investigation would establish the full extent of the syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and ensure that all suspects found culpable were prosecuted.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives of the Mowe Division for their prompt response and operational efficiency.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across Ogun State.
The commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police by providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons and activities.
