Not Yet Over: As Adeleke Celebrates Victory, APC Prepares for Tribunal, Lawyers Waiting Patiently to Fish in Petitions’ Water
The battle over the 2026 Osun State governorship election may not be over despite Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory, as the All Progressives Congress prepares to challenge the outcome at the Election Petition Tribunal.
While the Adeleke camp continues to celebrate the governor’s re-election, the APC and its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, are expected to scrutinise the conduct and results of the election as they consider their next legal steps.
Adeleke of the Accord Party was declared winner after polling 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes, while African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
The declaration triggered celebrations among Adeleke’s supporters across the state, with the governor receiving congratulations from political allies and supporters following his return for another term.
However, the expected legal challenge could open a fresh chapter in the Osun election, with lawyers and legal practitioners watching closely as the post-election dispute takes shape.
With the tribunal process potentially becoming the next battleground, lawyers are also waiting in the wings to make their moves in what could become another fiercely contested chapter of the Osun governorship election.
