EFCC: Immigration CG Not Under Investigation Over Visa Fraud Allegations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is not under investigation over alleged visa fraud involving some officers of the service.

In a statement issued by the commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC described reports linking the Immigration Comptroller General to the alleged visa racketeering as false and misleading. The commission stressed that although it is prosecuting some immigration officers over alleged visa fraud, Nandap has no connection with the ongoing cases.

According to the EFCC, there are existing cases of alleged visa fraud against some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service before the Federal High Court, while investigations are continuing and could lead to the arraignment of more officers involved in the alleged fraudulent practices.

The anti-graft agency stated unequivocally that it has no case against the Immigration Comptroller General, adding that she is “not remotely connected” to the ongoing investigations.

The commission also urged media organisations to verify information with the appropriate authorities before publishing reports relating to its activities, warning that inaccurate reports could mislead the public and undermine confidence in ongoing investigations.
