Just In: Governor Abiodun approves one day off, N10,000 transport allowance for civil servants
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has approved the extension of the one-day-off work palliative for eligible civil servants and the payment of a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance from July to September 2026 to cushion the impact of rising transportation costs.
The approval was contained in a circular issued on Thursday and signed by the State Head of Service, Mr. Olanrewaju Saka. According to the circular, the measures are aimed at easing the additional financial burden faced by workers in commuting to work while motivating them to maintain efficient and excellent service delivery.
Saka urged civil servants to make the most of the arrangement without compromising productivity, noting that the state government remains committed to the welfare of its workforce despite prevailing economic challenges.
The circular recalled that Governor Abiodun had earlier approved the same palliative from April to June 2026 following the increase in the pump price of petrol. It explained that the latest extension is intended to sustain support for workers as transportation costs remain high.
However, the Head of Service clarified that the one-day-off policy does not apply to officers on shift duties or those providing essential services.
Those exempted include medical personnel, judicial workers, teaching and non-teaching staff in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, security personnel, political office holders, accounting officers, directors, and other officers receiving Special Responsibility Allowances due to the nature of their responsibilities, which require their physical presence at work.
