Soldiers kill ISWAP Cameraman with his Camera, Uncover Foreign Terrorist Trainer, Doctor in Borno forest
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) cameraman and uncovered evidence pointing to the involvement of foreign terrorist facilitators, including a Palestinian trainer and a Moroccan medical doctor, during an operation in Borno State.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
He said the breakthrough followed a failed attempt by ISWAP fighters to infiltrate troops’ position at Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area on Saturday night to loot cholera medical supplies.
The troops detected the movement, engaged the terrorists and forced them to retreat after inflicting heavy casualties.
According to Goni, the operation led to the recovery of a Sony camcorder belonging to the slain ISWAP cameraman. Preliminary forensic analysis of the footage indicated that the operation was coordinated by four senior ISWAP commanders alongside three foreign terrorist facilitators, including a Palestinian identified as Abu Ishaq, believed to be the group’s chief trainer, a Moroccan identified as Abu Thaiba, who serves as the group’s medical doctor, and another unidentified Arab operative.
He added that troops also recovered ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat items, while satellite imagery and human intelligence confirmed that several terrorists were killed and many others sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.
Two soldiers who were injured in the firefight have been airlifted for advanced medical treatment and are in stable condition, while the military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against terrorist groups across the North East.
