JUNE 12: DEMOCRACY THRIVES WHEN LEADERS SERVE THE PEOPLE , KUSO

An aspirant for the Chairmanship position of Ibarapa East Local Government in the 2026 election, Hon. Abdul Akeem Akintola Kuso, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, describing June 12 as a historic reminder of the power of the people and the enduring value of democratic governance.

In a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, Kuso said Democracy Day provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey, celebrate its achievements, and recommit themselves to the principles of accountability, justice, and good governance.

According to him, June 12 occupies a unique place in Nigeria’s history because it symbolizes the resilience of citizens who stood firmly in defense of democracy and the right of the people to determine their political future.

“June 12 is more than a public holiday. It is a day that reminds us of the sacrifices made by patriots who fought to ensure that democracy prevailed in our nation. Their courage and commitment continue to inspire generations of Nigerians,” he said.

The chairmanship aspirant noted that democracy remains the most effective platform for promoting peace, development, and inclusive governance, adding that leaders must always remember that political power ultimately belongs to the people.

Kuso stressed that democratic governance should be measured not only by elections but also by the ability of government to improve the welfare of citizens through quality service delivery, infrastructure development, economic opportunities, and social justice.

He urged political office holders at all levels to remain accountable to the people and prioritize policies that positively impact communities, particularly at the grassroots.

Speaking on the development of Oyo State, Kuso expressed confidence in the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, whom he described as a leader committed to sustainable development, infrastructural growth, and people-oriented governance.

According to him, the governor’s administration has demonstrated that responsive leadership can bring meaningful progress to the lives of ordinary citizens.

“I strongly believe in the leadership capacity and developmental vision of Governor Seyi Makinde. His commitment to infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic growth continues to inspire confidence in the future of Oyo State.”

Kuso further stated that his aspiration to serve the people of Ibarapa East is driven by a desire to deepen grassroots development and strengthen democratic participation at the local government level.

He emphasized that local government remains the closest tier of government to the people and must be positioned to address community needs effectively.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, we must renew our commitment to the values of service, integrity, transparency, and inclusiveness. Democracy succeeds when leaders listen to the people and work tirelessly to improve their quality of life.”

The aspirant called on residents of Ibarapa East and Nigerians in general to remain hopeful despite current challenges, stressing that the nation’s future remains bright.

He encouraged young people to actively participate in democratic processes and contribute positively to the development of their communities.

“Hope is the foundation of progress. As Nigerians, we must continue to believe in our country, support good governance, and work together to build a better future for ourselves and generations yet unborn.”

Kuso congratulated Nigerians on Democracy Day and prayed for continued peace, unity, and prosperity across the country.

He reaffirmed his commitment to democratic ideals and pledged to continue supporting initiatives that promote development, empowerment, and inclusive governance in Ibarapa East Local Government.

“June 12 reminds us that democracy belongs to the people. Let us protect it, strengthen it, and use it as a tool to build a more prosperous and united Nigeria.”
