Legal practitioner and Estate Surveyor and Valuer, Barrister Oloyede Adelani, has been honoured by the Department of Estate Management, Lead City University, Ibadan, for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of estate management practice in Nigeria.

The award was presented to Barrister Adelani during the department’s Seminar Series 4.0, held at the university campus.

The event, themed _“Artificial Intelligence Trajectory: An Emerging Factor in Real Estate, Surveying, and Valuation Profession,”_ brought together professionals, academics, and students to discuss the impact of technology on the built environment.

In his keynote address, Barrister Adelani highlighted the urgent need for professionals in the real estate and valuation sector to adapt to rapid technological changes. He said the evolving global communication landscape and the rise of data-driven decision-making make it imperative for estate surveyors and valuers to embrace Artificial Intelligence for improved service delivery, accuracy in data management, and competitiveness in the global market.

“Artificial Intelligence is an emerging factor in real estate, surveying, and valuation. It is emerging from its own embryo, and it is now clear for all of us to take on. I encourage you not to rely 100 percent on the training given to you in school, but to keep training yourselves and stay ahead of the curve,” Adelani told participants.

While receiving the award, Barrister Adelani commended the Department of Estate Management, Lead City University, for its commitment to bridging the gap between academic training and industry practice. He lauded the department’s efforts in positively impacting younger generations and preparing them to contribute meaningfully to the sector.

Also speaking at the event, Estate Surveyor and Valuer, ESV Yaya Ajagbe, lauded the department for honouring Barrister Adelani.

“The honouree deserves more than this. ESV Adelani is a man of many parts. He is one of my benefactors and is committed to the service of humanity,” Ajagbe said.

The seminar also featured lectures from industry experts. Estate Valuer Tayo Odunsi, represented by Miss Farida Alaka, and ESV Ayodeji Odeleye emphasized that Artificial Intelligence should be seen as a tool to enhance professional practice.

“Artificial Intelligence will not replace professionals who use it, but it will replace anyone who refuses to make use of it,” they jointly noted.

The event ended with a call for continued collaboration between academia and industry to ensure Nigerian professionals remain relevant in the age of digital transformation.

The programme was attended by stakeholders in real estate, surveying, and valuation.
