Governor Adeleke Accuses Osun Police Commissioner of Non-Cooperation, Says ‘I Don’t Know What His Problem Is’
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has accused the state’s Commissioner of Police of failing to cooperate with efforts to maintain peace and security, amid renewed violence and security challenges in parts of the state.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, the governor expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation, describing recent incidents of violence as unacceptable.
“I am sad, very, very sad. The Commissioner of Police in Osun State is not cooperating. That is why we keep having problems. Other security agencies are trying, but he, in particular, is not cooperating. I don’t know what his problem is,” Adeleke said.
The governor alleged that armed thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress had carried out attacks in parts of the state, resulting in shootings and injuries to residents.
“Right now, I have been informed that there was a shootout involving thugs. The thugs of the APC came out and started shooting people. It is not acceptable,” he said.
Adeleke, however, appealed to residents and supporters to remain calm and avoid reprisals that could further escalate tensions.
“I am telling my people to calm down. We do not want any chaos or violence that could lead to the loss of more lives. I have tried my best to ensure that Osun remains peaceful and stable,” the governor stated.
He accused unnamed individuals of continually provoking violence in the state, insisting that his administration would not tolerate actions capable of threatening public peace.
The governor disclosed that he had escalated the matter to top security authorities, including the General Officer Commanding, the Chief of Army Staff and the Inspector-General of Police.
“As I am talking to you, I have called the GOC, I have called the Chief of Army Staff, I have reported the matter to the Inspector-General of Police, and I have done everything necessary. Enough is enough,” he said.
Adeleke added that he would brief the public further on the situation during a subsequent press conference.
The governor’s comments come amid growing concerns over security challenges in Osun State, including recent political tensions and violent clashes reported in some communities.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Commissioner of Police had not publicly responded to the governor’s allegations.
The public is awaiting his reaction to determine the accuracy of the claims and to hear his position on the accusations of non-cooperation and the handling of security challenges in the state.
