Oyo Fire Service Averts Disaster as Petrol Tanker Overturns in Ogbomoso
The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has averted what could have been a major disaster after a petrol-laden tanker overturned and spilled its contents in the Apake area of Ogbomoso.
The incident occurred when a trailer tanker from Kano State, carrying about 66,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), reportedly lost control and somersaulted by the roadside, resulting in a massive fuel spill at Apake area of the town.
According to the agency, Firefighters led by Chief Fire Superintendent Dairo immediately mobilized to the scene after a distress call was received from a passerby and an official of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), Mr. Adigun Tayo.
The swift intervention successfully prevented an explosion or fire incident, while the area was secured until normal social and commercial activities, including vehicular movement, were restored.
Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged motorists and vehicle owners to cultivate the habit of regular vehicle maintenance and strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road accidents.
He also encouraged members of the public to promptly report fire and rescue emergencies to the agency through its emergency lines for quick response.
