Jagaban on a Straight Line: Tinubu, Wife Vote in Lagos as APC Presidential Primary Begins Nationwide

President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Saturday participated in the All Progressives Congress presidential primary at Ward E in Ikoyi, Lagos, as the ruling party commenced its nationwide exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The president and his wife arrived at the venue in a motorcade and were welcomed by party supporters, security operatives and members of the media.

Video footage from the exercise showed the couple moving through large crowds of APC members and supporters gathered at the venue for the ward-level primary.

The exercise forms part of the APC’s May 2026 primaries, through which Tinubu is seeking re-nomination as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The event attracted heavy media presence, with journalists and camera crews capturing the president’s interaction with party faithful during the voting process.

Speaking after casting his vote, Tinubu described the exercise as a strong demonstration of internal democracy and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the process across the country.

“This is grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate and be involved,” the president said in a video shared by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

“My challenge is to ensure that we have internal democracy that is peaceful, transparent and well organised.”

Tinubu also commended APC governors for overseeing what he described as a smooth and credible process in their respective states.

“From the ward congresses to local government congresses, delegate accreditation, validation, membership registration and certification of the electoral process, it has been going very well,” he said.

“At least, you will score democracy at a high level.”

The APC presidential primary is expected to continue across states as the party prepares for the 2027 polls.
