JAMB Releases 279 Withheld UTME Results After Malpractice Review

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released 279 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results earlier withheld over suspected examination malpractice following a comprehensive review of flagged cases.

The examination body, however, disclosed that investigations into several other suspected malpractice cases are still ongoing, warning that any candidate found culpable could still face cancellation of results.

In a statement issued by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Board explained that the release of the results followed routine integrity checks and detailed assessments conducted after the examination.

According to the statement, some candidates were cleared after investigations found no prima facie evidence linking them to examination misconduct, while results of candidates confirmed to have violated examination regulations were cancelled outright.

“The release follows ongoing investigations into cases of suspected examination malpractice. While some results have been outrightly cancelled where evidence of malpractice was established, others have been released where the Board found no prima facie case against the affected candidates,” the statement read.

JAMB added that examination centres currently under surveillance or linked to adverse reports from its monitoring teams would remain under investigation pending the conclusion of ongoing checks.

The Board further warned that any candidate indicted during subsequent reviews would have their results withdrawn.

Candidates whose results are still pending were advised to check their status by sending “UTMERESULT” to either 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number used during registration.

The development comes amid intensified efforts by JAMB to safeguard the credibility of the UTME and strengthen measures against examination malpractice, which continues to pose a major challenge to Nigeria’s tertiary education admission system.
