EFCC declares former humanitarian minister Sadiya Umar Farouq wanted over alleged fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted over allegations of criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, and diversion of public funds.

The commission announced this in a notice published on its official website on Saturday.

According to the EFCC, Farouq, 52, is an indigene of Zamfara State. Her last known address was listed as EN 008, Okpo River, off Agulu Street, Maitama, Abuja.

The notice, signed by the agency’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, urged members of the public with credible information on her whereabouts to contact any EFCC office nationwide or report through its official communication channels.

“The public is hereby notified that Sadiya Umar Farouq, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, and diversion of public funds,” the statement read.

The EFCC directed anyone with useful information to report to its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, or Abuja. It also provided contact numbers, email, and advised the public to reach out to the nearest police station.

Farouq served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development between 2019 and 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing scrutiny of former officials who served in key humanitarian and social intervention roles during the previous administration.
