Fintiri: I Have the Right to Anoint My Successor, Candidate to Be Unveiled Next Week

Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa State, says he will soon announce his preferred successor ahead of next year’s governorship election.

Fintiri made this known on Monday in Yola, the state capital, while receiving one of the aspirants for the position in his office.

“I also have the right to appoint and anoint my candidate. I am carefully considering all the variables, and by next week, I will present my choice,” he said.

The governor noted that consultations are ongoing and added that the state’s political structure would be mobilised to support his preferred candidate.

“We will go all out, with God on our side and with the full backing of the government structure we have built. With our sleeves rolled up, we will support and vote for that candidate because it is the state we want to salvage,” he said.

Fintiri expressed confidence in his understanding of the people’s expectations.

“I know the pulse of the state. I know how they feel, what they are telling me, and who they want to succeed me,” he added.

However, he emphasised that the process remains open to other aspirants.

“That does not mean we are closing our doors. If you believe you are capable, bold enough, and qualified to contest, you are welcome to step into the ring,” he said.

The governor further stated that fairness and loyalty would guide his decision-making process.

“We will stay on course to ensure that while we pursue fairness, we also uphold loyalty,” he said.

“Anyone who brings hardship to my people will have me to contend with. At this moment, I will make decisions as governor to ensure that the best person succeeds me.

“Even in the face of threats or persecution, I am fully prepared to give everything even my life for the progress of this state.”
