Opatoki Salutes Oyo Workers on May Day; Praises Makinde’s Labour-Friendly Policies, Pledges Continuity in 2027
As the world marks International Workers’ Day 2026, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopeful for the 2027 Oyo State election, Otunba Oluseye Oladosu Opatoki, has extended heartfelt solidarity to workers across the state, describing them as “the pride of Oyo State and the foundation of the prosperity we enjoy today.”
In a May Day goodwill message issued in Ibadan, Opatoki joined Nigerians in celebrating the resilience, dedication, and sacrifice of the working class, while commending the labour-friendly policies of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration in Oyo State.
The PDP aspirant paid glowing tribute to civil servants, teachers, health workers, security personnel, artisans, farmers, traders, and private sector employees, whom he described as “the driving force behind Oyo State’s progress.”
“On this special day, I celebrate every worker in Oyo State. From the classrooms to the hospitals, from the farms to the markets, you are the true heroes of our democracy,” Opatoki said.
He particularly commended Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE for what he described as sustained commitment to workers’ welfare, citing regular payment of salaries and pensions, recruitment in key sectors such as education and health, and ongoing infrastructural development that has created employment opportunities across the state.
“Under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, the PDP government in Oyo State has demonstrated that workers’ welfare is not negotiable. That is a legacy we must protect and build upon,” he stated.
Opatoki noted that the PDP remains firmly rooted in pro-workers’ ideology, adding that the achievements recorded under the current administration reaffirm the party’s commitment to labour welfare and human capital development.
“May Day reminds us that the dignity of labour is central to the PDP philosophy. In Oyo State, we have seen what is possible when government and workers operate in trust and partnership. Salaries are paid promptly, promotions are regular, and workers are respected,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2027, the PDP aspirant pledged to consolidate and expand on the existing labour-focused policies if given the mandate to fly the party’s flag and serve as governor.
“My vision is continuity, consolidation, and expansion of the good works already being done under Governor Seyi Makinde. We will deepen job creation, strengthen vocational training, support small businesses, and ensure Oyo workers remain among the best treated in Nigeria,” he assured.
He added that his “comradeship agenda” would prioritise collaboration with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other labour unions to promote industrial harmony and inclusive growth.
Opatoki also urged workers to remain committed and united, stressing that sustained progress in the state depends on collective effort.
He further appreciated labour leaders in Oyo State for what he described as their maturity and constructive engagement with government, noting that industrial peace has been key to the state’s stability and development.
“Your wisdom and partnership with government have kept Oyo State peaceful and progressive. This is the spirit we must sustain,” he said.
The PDP hopeful concluded by wishing workers a peaceful celebration and a productive year ahead, praying for continued prosperity for families across the state.
“Happy Workers’ Day to the great workers of Oyo State. May the labour of our hands continue to prosper, and may Oyo State continue to rise under the PDP,” he said.
