‎Rising Destitution in Ibadan Sparks Calls for Urgent Government Intervention

‎Attention has been drawn to the increasing number of destitute persons roaming the streets of Ibadan, with many seen sleeping under bridges and flyovers, while others move about in tattered clothing and unsanitary conditions.

‎The situation has become a growing concern for commuters and residents in the city.

‎Speaking with residents of Ibadan, many who expressed willingness to share their views on the situation, attributed the trend primarily to poverty, noting that the rising cost of living has worsened hardship in the land.

‎Others pointed to unemployment and mental health challenges as key drivers of the growing destitution.

‎Residents now call on the Oyo State government to urgently intervene by addressing the root causes of the situation.

‎They urged authorities to expand access to social welfare support, create job opportunities, and provide structured rehabilitation programmes for affected individuals.

‎As concerns continue to mount, residents are clamouring for swift government action and sustained support to improve the living conditions of destitute persons and restore dignity to vulnerable members of society.
