President Tinubu Declares Second-Term Bid, Alleges Political Plot Amid Security Challenges
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his intention to seek re-election, dismissing what he described as coordinated efforts by political opponents to remove him from office.
In a strongly worded statement, the president presented himself as determined and unshaken despite increasing criticism and alleged political manoeuvring.
“They tried to get rid of me, but I refused to go. I am a very stubborn politician,” Tinubu said. “I will campaign for my second term, and I will win.”
He also accused unnamed rivals, including some former allies, of attempting to exploit Nigeria’s security challenges in order to weaken his administration and advance their political ambitions.
“You were played into the hands of brigades, including my old enemies, who want to use insecurity to push me out,” he stated.
The remarks come at a time of growing political activity and renewed debate over governance and national security, as key players begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general elections.
Observers say the president’s comments reflect an increasingly tense political atmosphere, with early signs suggesting that the next race for power could be fiercely contested.
