Kano Assembly Confirms Murtala Garo as New Deputy Governor
The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Alhaji Murtala Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state after a successful screening process.
The confirmation came during Monday’s plenary session, presided over by the Speaker of the House, Jibril Falgore, following the presentation and adoption of a report by an ad hoc committee.
Presenting the report, the committee chairman and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, said Garo’s nomination followed the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo.
Bello explained that the screening was conducted in accordance with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to approve a nominee whenever a vacancy exists in the office of Deputy Governor.
According to the committee, Garo underwent a thorough screening process that included an extensive question-and-answer session covering his educational qualifications, professional experience, understanding of governance, and vision for Kano State. His credentials were also verified.
The committee noted that Garo demonstrated a strong grasp of the responsibilities of the office and presented a practical vision to support Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration in delivering on its mandate.
Based on its findings, the committee recommended his confirmation, and the House adopted the recommendation unanimously.
Following the approval, Speaker Falgore formally declared Garo confirmed as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Ibrahim Adam, also confirmed the development in a statement shared on Facebook.
He wrote: “Kano State House of Assembly has screened and approved Hon. Murtala Sule Garo as Deputy Governor, as requested by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.”
