Govt That Cannot Protect Lives Has No Right to Exist — Obasanjo Blasts Tinubu Administration
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has strongly criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over the worsening insecurity across the country.
Speaking in an interview with News Central, Obasanjo said any government that fails to protect the lives and property of its citizens has no justification to remain in office.
The former Nigerian leader was reacting to the recent wave of insecurity in different parts of the country, which has led to the killing of many citizens and the abduction of several others.
“Let me tell you, the government that cannot give security of life and property to its citizens has no right to exist,” Obasanjo said.
He also criticised members of the National Assembly over issues relating to their salaries and allowances, insisting that lawmakers have no constitutional authority to determine their own remuneration.
“The elected members of our National Assembly have no right to fix their own salary and their own emoluments.
“It is not in our constitution for them to do that. It is the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission that should handle it,” he said.
Obasanjo’s remarks come amid growing public concern over insecurity, economic hardship, and governance challenges facing the nation.
