Wild Elephant Invades Oyo Community, Kills One, Whisks Away Another


‎The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that one person was killed while another was declared missing after a wild elephant invaded Innayin Community in Oyo State on Thursday.

‎According to the police, the incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on 23 April 2026, prompting an emergency response by operatives of the Command in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters.

‎Police said the body of Ibrahim Tijani, 45, was later found in a nearby bush with injuries suspected to have been inflicted by the animal. His remains were evacuated to the General Hospital, Iwere-Ile, for medical examination and preservation.

‎The Command also disclosed that another resident, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, 50, was reported missing after an encounter with the same elephant. Search operations were still ongoing at the time of filing this report.

‎Residents of Innayin and surrounding communities have been advised to avoid the affected area and immediately report any sighting of the animal to security agencies.

‎The police added that relevant authorities, including the National Park Service Nigeria, are being engaged to provide expert guidance on safely containing the situation in line with wildlife conservation laws.
