D’Tigress Draw France, South Korea, Hungary in FIBA Women’s World Cup Group
Nigeria’s D’Tigress have been drawn in Group B alongside France, South Korea, and Hungary for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup.
The draw ceremony, held in Berlin, placed Nigeria against France, currently ranked second in the world in the latest FIBA women’s rankings.
Rena Wakama’s side are ranked eighth globally, while South Korea occupy 15th place and Hungary are ranked 19th.
France and South Korea both defeated Nigeria during the World Cup qualifiers earlier this year. However, those results had no impact on D’Tigress, who had already secured qualification by successfully defending their Women’s Afrobasket title.
Group A consists of Japan, Spain, Germany, and Mali, while Belgium, Australia, Puerto Rico, and Turkey make up Group C. Group D features the United States, China, Italy, and Czechia.
Under the tournament format, the winners of each group will qualify automatically for the quarter-finals. Teams finishing second and third in each group will advance to a qualification round, with the winners joining the four group winners in the last eight.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from September 4 to 13 in Berlin, Germany.
D’Tigress missed the last edition of the World Cup in Australia after FIBA suspended Nigeria following a federal government ban on international basketball activities.
The team will be aiming to surpass its best-ever World Cup performance, a quarter-final finish achieved in Tenerife, Spain, in 2018.
