Bauchi Governor orders political appointees seeking elective offices to resign by Friday

The Bauchi State Government, in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended), has directed all political appointees intending to contest in the forthcoming party primary elections to resign their appointments on or before Friday, April 24, 2026, if they have not already done so.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.

Gidado explained that the decision aligns with statutory requirements governing the participation of public office holders in electoral processes and is intended to ensure full compliance with the law.

He stated, “This directive is in line with statutory requirements governing the participation of public office holders in electoral processes and is aimed at ensuring full compliance with the law.”

The government also expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their service and contributions to the development of Bauchi State, while wishing them success in their future endeavours.

Gidado further directed that all affected officials must hand over government property in their possession, as well as the responsibilities of their offices, to the appropriate officers within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
