Residents on Ikeja West–Osogbo Axis to Experience Total Blackout as 330kV Transmission Tower Collapses, Facilities Destroyed

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared force majeure following the collapse of a transmission tower on the Ikeja West–Osogbo 330-kilovolt (kV) line in Lagos.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, said the tower collapsed on April 16 as a result of a severe rainstorm.

She explained that the incident qualifies as a force majeure event, which relieves a party of liability when unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances prevent it from meeting contractual obligations.

Force majeure typically covers extraordinary events such as war, pandemics, or natural disasters that disrupt operations beyond the control of affected parties.
