‎Oyo Government Launches Waste Segregation Drive in Partnership with Private Firm

‎The Oyo State Government has launched a waste segregation initiative within the State Secretariat in partnership with a private firm, as part of its commitment to promoting proper waste categorisation and disposal.

‎The initiative, supported through the donation of plastic waste bins facilitated by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, is aimed at encouraging systematic separation of waste materials and strengthening environmental sustainability practices within government offices.

‎Receiving the bins on behalf of the State Government, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Honorable Ademola Aderinto, expressed appreciation to the private firm for its support and commitment to environmental cleanliness.

‎He explained that the colour-coded bins, designated for paper, plastic, and organic waste, will be distributed across offices within the Governor’s Office and other departments in the State Secretariat as the first phase of the initiative.

‎Aderinto noted that the initiative is designed to serve as a practical example for residents, demonstrating the importance of separating waste at source as a critical step toward effective waste management.

‎He further highlighted that proper waste segregation can create economic opportunities by enabling the recovery and supply of recyclable materials to processors, thereby reducing overall waste volumes and lowering evacuation costs.

‎The Commissioner urged residents to embrace the initiative, while the private firm reaffirmed that the donation forms part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
