Oyo Assembly Moves to Upgrade College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora to University Status
The Oyo State House of Assembly has moved to upgrade the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, OYSCATECH, to a full-fledged University of Agriculture and Technology, citing the institution’s capacity and the need to expand access to higher education in Ibarapa zone.
The assembly, in a motion, sponsored by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, alongside Hon. Peter Ojedokun, during plenary, called on Governor Seyi Makinde to approve the upgrade and direct relevant ministries to begin the legal and administrative process required for the transition.
The Lawmakers stated that the college has the human and physical resources needed for university status, including over 500 staff, about 4,000 hectares of land, six faculties, and more than 50 academic buildings and laboratories.
They added that the National Universities Commission, NUC, has approved 16 degree programmes for the institution while the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has recognised it as a degree-awarding school.
The Assembly stated that upgrading the college would address the absence of a university in Ibarapa zone, which currently limits access to higher education and deepens regional imbalance within the state.
