Nigeria to Defend Unity Cup Title Against India, Jamaica, Zimbabwe

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to defend their Unity Cup title against Zimbabwe, Jamaica, and India in the upcoming edition of the international tournament.

The Unity Cup is a four-nation football competition that celebrates Afrocentric heritage and global diaspora communities.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the fixtures and venue for the tournament in a statement released on Wednesday.

The competition will take place at Charlton Athletic’s The Valley Stadium in South London from May 26 to May 30.

Nigeria will face Zimbabwe in the first semi-final on May 26. Jamaica and India will clash in the second semi-final on May 27 in what promises to be an exciting encounter between contrasting football cultures.

The winners of both semi-final matches will advance to the final, where they will compete for the Unity Cup trophy on May 30.

Ibrahim Gusau, President of the NFF, expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ readiness to defend their title, while emphasizing that the team will not underestimate any opponent.

“The Nigeria Football Federation is delighted to have another opportunity to see the Super Eagles compete in the highly exciting Unity Cup tournament,” Gusau said.

“As defending champions, the Super Eagles will aim to retain the title this summer. However, we will approach every match with seriousness and respect for all participating teams — India, Jamaica, and Zimbabwe.”

He added that the tournament is expected to be highly competitive and entertaining, noting that such an atmosphere brings out the best in the Nigerian team.

Nigeria won the 2025 edition of the tournament after defeating Jamaica on penalties in the final.

The Super Eagles had earlier played out a 2-2 draw with Ghana in the semi-final before advancing and eventually clinching the title.

Nigeria also won the inaugural edition of the competition in 2004.
