NCS Calls for Investigation Into Blessing CEO’s Cancer Claims
The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has called for a thorough investigation into claims by social media personality Blessing CEO that she is battling stage four breast cancer.
The controversy began in January when Blessing CEO first announced her diagnosis publicly. More recently, she shared what she described as a medical report to support her claim while also appealing to the public for financial assistance.
However, Xinus Medical Diagnostics disputed the authenticity of the report, alleging that it had been altered. According to the diagnostic centre, the original document was issued in May 2025 to a different individual, Deborah Mbara.
Deborah Mbara, a makeup artist and cancer survivor, later came forward to explain how Blessing CEO allegedly came into possession of her medical report.
In response to the unfolding situation, the NCS strongly condemned any attempt to exploit cancer for personal gain. The organisation emphasised that cancer is a life-threatening condition that requires honesty, empathy, and responsibility.
In a statement, the NCS noted that while many Nigerians had shown compassion by donating money, growing concerns about the authenticity of the claims have triggered public outrage and calls for accountability.
“Misrepresentation not only deceives the public but also harms genuine patients by eroding trust and discouraging support,” the statement read.
The society added that it would collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure a comprehensive investigation and appropriate accountability where necessary.
The NCS also advised the public to verify claims before making donations, urging patients and their families to seek guidance through its established support systems to ensure transparency and credibility.
Blessing CEO, who initially maintained that she had stage four cancer, later described the situation as a “miscommunication.” She also clarified that she received ₦13 million in donations, contrary to widely circulated reports claiming ₦100 million.
Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that no formal petition has been filed against her, despite the widespread public backlash.
