Just In: Nigerian DJs Ban Burna Boy’s Music After Clash With DJ Tunez

The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has announced a temporary ban on all music by Burna Boy following a reported altercation involving him and DJ Tunez.

The incident occurred on Monday at Obi’s House, a popular weekly Afrobeats event in Lagos. What initially began as a heated argument between the two reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation. Sources claim that members of Burna Boy’s entourage became involved before bystanders stepped in to de-escalate the situation.

While the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, speculation on social media suggests it may be linked to long-standing tensions within the industry. Some observers point to DJ Tunez’s close association with Wizkid, who is often compared to Burna Boy by fans.

In response to the incident, the NDJ released a statement via Instagram condemning hostility and discrimination within the entertainment industry, while emphasizing the need for unity, equality, and mutual respect among DJs.

The association reiterated its commitment to protecting its members and promoting fairness across the profession, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora. It also called on stakeholders in the industry to reject prejudice and foster an environment where all DJs can thrive without fear of discrimination.

As part of its response, the NDJ announced a boycott of Burna Boy’s music across its network until further notice, pending the outcome of an internal investigation into the incident.

Burna Boy has not publicly commented on the situation as of the time of this report.
